FCOM Position on Proselytization and Religious Freedom
It is the policy of Free Clinics of Michigan to provide healthcare services to uninsured and underinsured persons, regardless of gender, race, color, sexual preference, nationality or religion. Although Free Clinics of Michigan is not a religious organization, several of its member clinics are sponsored by and affiliated with religious organizations. If a religious service is offered with a health clinic, receipt of health care by a patient will not be contingent upon the patient's participation in that religious service. IF an individual patients does not wish to have anyone speak to him/her about religion, all clinic personnel and volunteers will respect the wishes of the patient. The religious affiliation, beliefs, and preferences of patients served by member clinics of the Free Clinics of Michigan will be respected. (2009)
FCOM Position on Healthcare as a Human Right
The Free Clinics Of Michigan (FCOM) affirm that health care is a human right. To this end free clinics provide a safety net of primary care for uninsured persons, while working for a reformed U.S. healthcare system that is inclusive, available, acceptable, affordable, and of good quality. (2013)
FCOM Position on Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA)
The Free Clinics of Michigan (FCOM) affirm the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 as a means to extend healthcare coverage to many of our nation's 50 million uninsured. Health reform does not end with the ACA, so we will work for a healthcare system that is inclusive, available, acceptable, affordable, and of good quality. Until that goal is achieved, free clinics continue to serve those who are uninsured and need care, including immigrants and others who fall through the healthcare safety net. (2013)
FCOM Position on Clean Drinking Water as a Human Right
Free Clinics of Michigan believes that access to clean and affordable water is a human right. Clean water is necessary for a healthy life, and should be held in public trust, free of privatization. We will advocate for access to, protection of, and conservation of water. (2016)
